Darood and Islam:

The following quote is a synopsis of a Hadith. This quote has been used when describing the virtues of Darood Sharif in the following link;

“From this narrated hadith we can see that the Beloved Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (Peace and blessings of Allah Almighty be upon Him) is the supreme creation of Allah Almighty. The moon, the entire world, the angels of Allah Almighty and the other magnificent creations of Allah Almighty can’t even begin to compare with the Glory and Beauty of the Beloved Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (Peace and blessings of Allah Almighty be upon Him).”

This quote is not dissimilar to Christian understanding of Jesus!

This quote is very easily dismissed in the light of the Quran many times including the following verse where Muhammad is described as a messenger like all other messengers;

*** (3:144) Muhammad was no more than a messenger like the messengers before him. Should he die or get killed, would you turn back on your heels? Anyone who turns back on his heels does not hurt GOD in the least. GOD rewards those who are appreciative.

·      Islam at this juncture is in a period of renaissance!

·      Due to less constraint on religious speech many new and interesting ideas are borne into the grain of Islam!

·      One such idea which consistently is building momentum today is the concept of Quran Alone!

·       Which I fully support and propagate!

·      This article is here to promote Quran Alone as the religious guidance for all Muslims!

·      Today with the help of God and the Quran we shall look into the ancient prayer called Darood!

·      Darood is a prayer where extensive veneration of Prophet Muhammad is exercised in the form of Salaams!

·      And it is understood by majority of Muslims today that by doing this prayer God sends His blessings!

o  In order to look at this proposition we need to search the Quran for evidence!

·      In essence what it all boils down to is;

o  Darood is false?

o  OR

o  Darood is true?

·      In order to do that we look at two translations of (Al-Ahzab 33:56-57) one which favours Darood and the other which does not;

o   Indeed Allah and His Angels send blessings on the Prophet. O believers call for Allah’s blessings on him and salute him with all respect. Surely, those who annoy Allah and His Rasool, are cursed by Allah in this world and in the hereafter. He has prepared for them a humiliating punishment. (Al-Ahzab 33:56-57)

·      These two verses from the Quran are the bedding grounds for Darood and the art of mentioning “Salaams” after Muhammad, which Darood is all about!

·      Now the other translation is;

o  (Al-Ahzab 33:56-57) God and His Angels help and support the prophet. O you who believe, you shall help and support him, and regard him as he should be regarded. Surely, those who oppose God and His messenger, God afflict them with a curse in this life, and in the Hereafter; He has prepared for them a shameful retribution.

·      The first translation favour Darood.

·      The second translation does not favour Darood!

o  The first translation has a significant anomaly in it which stands out as a sore thumb and it is in the phrase;

§  “surely, those who annoy Allah and His Rasool are cursed by Allah…”

·        Indeed one cannot annoy a dead person; one can only annoy a living being!

o  And we have already witnessed verse (3:144) at the beginning of this article where Prophet Muhammad’s fate was prophesised confirming the fact that Prophet Muhammad is dead and buried in Medina!

·      **A very important point which supports the second translation at strength is the overwhelming fact which is that whenever Prophet Muhammad is addressed as Nabi in the Quran, it always refers to the times when Prophet Muhammad was alive! An example where Prophet Muhammad has been addressed as Nabi and is alive is as follows;

o  (33:59) O prophet, tell your wives, your daughters, and the wives of the believers that they shall lengthen their garments…

§  Obviously Prophets Wives are not alive today, therefore by default Prophet (Nabi) has been addressed when he was alive, over 1400 years ago!

Prophet Muhammad is addressed as a Nabi at the time when he was alive in (33:56-57). The concept of annoying Prophet Muhammad in the “first translation (33:56-57)” fails to accept the truth that Prophet Muhammad is dead. This in turn makes “Salaams” after mentioning Muhammad obsolete and void. This evidence confirms the fact that Darood is a manmade invention by those who idolise Prophet Muhammad.

Those who would continue practicing Darood is warned that this is an idol worship which is the only unforgivable sin if maintained till death! No one is greater or equal to God; this is the basic concept of Tawhid! By extreme veneration of Prophet Muhammad we are putting him above the threshold of being a human being, which is in total breach of Tawhid!

Kind regards
