Abortion allowed in Islam?
By Ijaz Chaudry
This article will reach the depth of
understanding the matter of when is it allowed to abort the baby in Islam. Islam
is an Arabic what which means Submission. All the prophets and the messengers
who came from the start of time were Muslims or Submitters. Since this name is
to do with religion, it implies that the submission is to the God of Heavens and
Earth. This name alone unifies all religions into one religion, which is
submission to God. Because of this unification of all religions into one, this
article is panacea for all mankind.
Let’s briefly look at two other scriptures
regarding abortion; Old Testament says “Thy, shall not kill” and covers this
subject, and the New Testament is totally against any sought of abortion. Since
Quran came to the final prophet (33:40) and by name prophets are God’s servants
who have been privileged to bring a book. Torah or The Old Testament came to all
the prophets after Moses up till Prophet Jesus. All these prophets added there
books to the Old Testament. Prophet Jesus brought the Injeel or Gospel. However,
both these books were not written down by the prophets, they were written down
by historians based on their understanding of what the prophets brought down.
Quran however, was written down at the time of
the revelations by Prophet Muhammad. This fact is mentioned in the verses of the
Quran as follows;
25 4
Those who disbelieved said "This is a fabrication that he produced with
the help of some other people." They have uttered a blasphemy and a falsehood.
25 5
They also said "Tales from the past that he wrote down; they were
dictated to him day and night."
Indeed at the time of the revelation of the
Quran, both the Old and New Testament were present, and by the sound of the
verses above Prophet Muhammad was accused for copying the Quran from those two
books. There are lots of similarities between these three books thus the
accusation. However, God is telling us in the Quran in (25:5) that they were new
revelations dictated to Prophet Muhammad day and night. Dictation also means
stipulation of words to be put down on paper.
In 20th Century Quran was proven to
be the Original Word of God, by mathematical means, a research done by Dr.Rashad
Khalifa of Tucson Arizona, there is lot of info on web both bad and good about
his work, just listen to good info, he was a good man!!!
Since Quran is the only authentic true word of
God on earth, we will establish the rules of Abortion based on the Quran.
Where does Quran stand on abortion?
So what does Quran say about abortion.
As we know abortion can be necessary under certain circumstances like
rape and lifesaving purpose. God has
provided us with His Mercy and allow abortion up till certain point.
The Abortion is allowed until Foetus is formed.
This is subtly but clearly put in the verse as follows;
[22:5]
O people, if you have any doubt about resurrection, (remember that) we
created you from dust, and subsequently from a tiny drop, which turns into a
hanging (embryo), then it becomes a
foetus that is given life “Soul” or (rwh in Arabic) or deemed lifeless.
We thus clarify things for you. We settle in the wombs whatever we will for a
predetermined period. We then bring
you out as infants, than you reach maturity. While some, of you die young,
others live to the worst age, only to find out that no more knowledge can be
attained beyond a certain limit. Also, you look at a land that is dead, than as
soon as we shower it with water, it vibrates with life and grows all kinds of
beautiful plants.
*So what does “life” in (22:5) mean? We know
that “Soul” is the real me and you and the only entity which will enter Paradise
after one dies. “Soul” in Arabic is called “rwh” which has geometric value of
214 when we concatenate this with the chapter and verse (22:5) we get complete
multiple of 19;
214 22 5 = 11275 x 19;
This code confirms the fact that the word “life” used in (22:5) actually means
“Soul” the real you and me. The embryo might be made of living cells, but foetus
is where the “Soul” is given or not given which pertains life.
The underlined bold part of the verse above is
the key to understand this point. We are disallowed murdering a Life or Soul.
And above life is only given to Foetus and not to embryo.
Thus it is okay to abort embryo.
But we need confirmation of some sort perhaps a verse where abortion is
mention. These verses are as
follows;
[22:1] O people, you shall reverence your Lord,
for the quaking of the Hour is something horrendous.
[22:2] The day you witness it, even a nursing
mother will discard her infant, and a pregnant woman will abort her foetus.
You will see the people staggering, as if they are intoxicated, even though they
are not intoxicated. This is because GOD's retribution is so awesome.
(22:2) is talking about aborting foetus as
highlighted above. This follows well with (22:5) where life is given to foetus
or deemed lifeless. The highlighted wording in (22:2) and the highlighted
wording in (22:5) previously completes a story about when the abortion could
take place within the pregnancy for the purpose where the foetus is deformed or
a rape case has been taken place. This fact is confirmed by the code below. And
that the time limit until when the abortion can take place is up till the foetus
is formed. When you add 1+2+5 the three verses in question you get 8.Concatenate
8 to 22 the chapter number we get 228 which is 19x12 or 228 / 190 = 1/ 2.
Confirming the fact that 22:5 can be used as a guide to abortion based on
the fact that life is given to foetus and not an embryo and that, 19 based codes
in the Quran does remove all traces of doubt.
Position 2 describes “Command used in various
situations”, thus 22:5 is a command used in understanding abortion allowed and
also used to understand creation of human from embryo, thus as the Position 2
describes this command (22:5) is used under various circumstances.
The Level is 2 which is Theme “Related to
Righteousness” which indeed reflects the fact it is righteous to abort an embryo
but not a foetus.
Also below another verse explains where foetus
is made into a creature and not embryo.
[23:14] Then we developed the drop into a
hanging (embryo), then developed the hanging (embryo) into a bite-size (foetus),
then created the bite-size (foetus) into bones, then covered the bones with
flesh. We thus produce a new creature. Most blessed is GOD, the best Creator.
Number of days to abortion;
To be more precise in days when the abortion is allowed look at the following
derivation of the codes;
The sum of pregnancy and breast feeding is 30
months (46:15). The time for breastfeeding alone is 24 months (31:14). 30 – 24 =
6 months is the pregnancy of life (nafs). The total number of months in
pregnancy from embryo onwards is 9 months. Thus 9 – 6 = 3 months is when there
is no life in embryo or foetus, which is to give and take couple of days, is 86
days. The approximation of 86 days signifies an important point which is that no
child is born exactly as scheduled, therefore this approximation of the days,
prepares the believers for just an event like this.
Therefore the abortion can take place within
the first 86 days of pregnancy. (22:2) 86 22 2 = 4538 x 19. Position is 8
“Issues”, indeed there are many issues regarding abortion in Islam and other
faiths, but this code clarifies all these issues for once and all.
Hence when the foetus reaches 87 days the life
is given to the foetus. (22:5) 22 + 5 + 87 = 114 = 19 x 6 Position 6 is
“Caution”, indeed this is very important moment because God might not give life
to foetus.
[31:14] We enjoined the human being to honour
his parents. His mother bore him, and the load got heavier and heavier. It takes
two years (of intensive care) until weaning. You shall be appreciative of Me,
and of your parents. To Me is the ultimate destiny.
[46:15] We enjoined the human being to honour
his parents. His mother bore him arduously, gave birth to him arduously, and
took intimate care of him for thirty months. When he reaches maturity, and
reaches the age of forty, he should say, "My Lord, direct me to appreciate the
blessings You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to do the righteous
works that please You. Let my children be righteous as well. I have repented to
You; I am a submitter."
In Conclusion;
Abortion is allowed in Islam. Abortion sometimes becomes important factor in the
case of rape or lifesaving purpose, where abortion is necessary. Abortion is
allowed up till 86 days after pregnancy before the life or soul is given to the
foetus.
